Healthy Hair Tips

Brushing....

Use a natural-bristle brush instead of metallic combs and plastic and nylon brushes.....Do not brush hair too often..Brushing too often causes split ends...

Never brush your hair when it is wet ...Your hair is most vulnerable to split or break....Instead use a wide tooth comb.....I suggest using Jibere Shower Comb ( Sold at Sallys or Walmart)
The brush I use is Hot n Silky Oval Cushion Reinforced Boar Brush ( Sold at Sallys)
Shampooing...

Do not shampoo everyday ...Only shampoo 1x a week..Skip the shampoo...Try rinsing hair in the shower and adding conditioner to hair and gently scrub scalp ( Co-washing)....Then rinse clean

Hair One is a cleansing conditioner that cleans the hair and scalp just like shampoo...Without all the stripping...Perfect if you need to wash everyday or often ( Sold @ Sallys)..

Before shampooing wet hair ...Then run a little conditioner through your hair...Then apply shampoo to hair...This prevents the shampoo from stripping the hair..

Split Ends...

Let go of split ends...There is no way to mend or fix split ends...Trimming is the only way to get rid of them...

In between trims..

Protect your hair from heat by using a leave in conditioner or heat protector...

Deep condition 2x a week
Moisturize your ends nightly
Sleeping on Satin Pillow cases..
Allow hair to dry naturally when ever possible

Avoid heat styling as much a possible (Blow dryers, flat irons, and curling irons)

Dusting your ends between trims will help your trims last longer also....Dusting is just cutting off just the very tips of your hair....You lose no length doing this..

Another way is to take small sections and twist them...The hairs that stick out you just cut them...

Also the search and destroy method is great...That is when you look at your ends and cut only the split ends you find...You want to sit next to a window or outside so that you have good light..

Healthy Lifestyle

Diet

Healthy Diet is key to getting the nutrition that you hair needs....When you not getting proper nutrients and vitamins everything goes to vital organs that need them most and your hair and nails do not get what they need to grow healthy and strong....This can cause dull hair, dry hair that leads to breakage, and even stunt growth...Taking a multi vitamin or hair vitamins help with making sure your body is getting what it needs...

Avoid extreme diets...A disruption in your diet will disrupt hair growth and can cause hair fall..

It has been a scientific proven fact that there is a general connection in ones health and hair

Sleep

Make sure your getting enough sleep ....When the body is deprived of anything necessary for it to function it will shut down all production of unnecessary functions such as growing hair or removing toxins from skin...

Stress

Laugh more...Smile more...Pick your battles....Take a deep breathe...Learn how to meditate and pray....Learn how to manage stress.....Stess causes stress-induced hair loss called telogen effluvium and alopecia areata....Yep hair loss...That job , bad kids, your bills, no good man could be the cause of your hair loss...

Illness can cause hair loss...Medication also causes hair loss

Hair Accessories

Don’t use a elastic bands with the metal piece . Only use all elastic bands ...Don't use metal clips , barrettes or hair combs..They tear hair and cause split ends..

Do not wear too tight updo's...

Chemicals

Stay away from chemicals for the healthiest hair...Relaxers and color damage the hair....Can you have healthy relaxed or colored hair ??? Yes !! But deep conditioning 1x a week alternating between protein and moisturizing conditioners are important..Always keep the hair moisturized...

The less you use chemicals the better..Instead of relaxing 6 or more times a year....Stretch out the time in between your relaxers.. Strive to relax less times a year

Hi Trace, great post. Question, do u ever experience scalp soreness in a particular area? For the past like 2 weeks, there have been 2 spots in the back of my head that are sooo tender and sore. It feels like i have a sore in my scalp, but nothing is there! I'm 9 weeks post and i've been bunning for the past 5 wks. U think maybe my pony tails r too tite? Im typically so conscientious of that tho. Idk. This is just really bothering me because i need to relax in 2 wks but i dnt kno if ill be able to!

@ Marie Grace....I will look that on one up for you hahahaha

@ Chanel...There a few causes of sore spots ...Stretching is not one of them...The most common cause of sore spots is using shampoo or conditioner that is harsh....

Whenever I use Paul Mitchel Tea Tree ..I get a few sore spots...Its just to harsh for my scalp..

Most likely its your shampoo and conditioner

Hello Traycee....
Your hair is WOW....Beautiful. Great Tips. I just started my hair journey and I decided to stretch from the start and I'm 16weeks post. However my hair is a little over EL but not completely SL and THIN. So bunning is out of the question. I'm 4b. Do you have any advise for styling?

This is really helpful. Rondell was wondering why she's been losing more hair than usual in her comb in the morning but now I know it's that dumb Tron calling me all the time and stressing me out. He's cut off now!

Hair loss is the common problem. No one would like to be bald. On an average an individual loses 100hairs from his/her scalp each day. Most of the men experience baldness at the age of forty. Some of the things help to prevent hair loss like licorice, black cumin, barley, garlic oil, sesame oil or boiled sesame leaves concoction, fenugreek etc.

Hey!
Thanks for all your tips!

Well, I've always wanted to have long hair, which isn't really the case right now.. I already cut my split ends but even though I use moisturizing products, serums, a special shampoo, etc... my hair is still very dry and I keep having split ends.. I don't know what to do and what kinds of products I should buy. Do you think that I would get better results if I used natural products (such as oils for example)?
And, is cutting my ends the only solution for my split ends? Isn't it possible to heal them?

Thanks in advance.
