August In My House

August is always a month I gain weight...See everyone's birthday is in August in my house (except for myself and the youngest)....Lets see it goes like this...On the 5th is Jay Jay's , on the 11th is Ant mans, on the 15th is Lil Curtis , on the 23rd is my Nieces Daijah's, and on the 31st is my Husbands..Between all of the birthday cakes and celebration meals I usually gain about 10 pounds or more by the end of the month...

I have been working out really hard lately so this month wasn't as bad as usual but I have gained 5 pounds..So before this 5 pounds turn into 8 , 10 etc...I'm about to get on the grind...Increase my calories burned ( Increasing cardio) , and stop eating after 5 30 in the evening..Drop my calorie intake to about 1200, and seriously watch the carbs ...I usually start August damage control after my Husband's bday but ...I'm going to start now ...I want no setbacks...

____________________________________________

By 8:30ish tonight I was starving...This not eating after 5:30 is really going to take some getting used too..I may change it to 6...Doing this always helps me drop a few pounds whenever I need to.... So I'm going to stick with it..So to keep my mind off the hunger...I grabbed a bottle of water..I did some reading...Packed my gym bag and headed back to the gym for the second time today..I had 2 good workouts today and a good total of cardio for the day..So I know I'm going to feel it over the next day or so....

hi Traycee! i am in the same situation as you. But i have a diet tip: i always eat an apple or drink a lemonade (without added sugar) 30 minutes before eating. That helps me to not have all this food in my hips and legs. I hope it helps you to lose weight.
Peace!

How do you handle the hunger after the workout? Does that happen to you? I am SO hungry after a vigorous workout. I think I heard Dr. Ian say once that just have fruit it will help the craving, but I dunno, I've never been able to just stop at the fruit hahahaha

Traycee.......I think 5:30 or 6 is still too early to cut off eating for the night. I would suggest 7:30 because you're suppose to let a 2 hour time spane for digestion. Then after that drink plenty of water.

@ Marie Grace....Good tip...But I rarely drink anything besides water...And thats what I do...I drink water before starting a meal..I do this too because it is so easy to mistake thirst for hunger...

@ Abundant1...Well I always do a protein shake following my training...So that usually helps..But if its a morning workout..I eat a apple before my work out and eat breakfast after my morning workout and shake..

If its a afternoon workout...I eat lunch after my workout..

Night time workouts...I try to go about 2 hrs after dinner and do the protein shake following...

@ Anonymous..Actually 2 hr before bed is not the time your supposed to eat..But that should be the cutt off time of your last meal before sleeping...

Believe it or not...Eating dinner about 5 30 -6 00 is what your supposed to be doing...7:30 is considered late...By 7 30-8:00 you should be eating a light snack...Think about it..Should kids be eating dinner at 7 30 at night..Heavens no thats considered late and considered a bad habit.

( Trust me...I have enough personal trainers and dietitians in my life to know..My Husband included)..They have no problem reminding when I should eat and feed dinner to my family

I lost 25 pounds by not eating after 6(bar one day a week, for courting purposes), drinking water only, exercising before breakfast, not eating meat, exercising in short increments but often throughout the week oh and weight training is so much more effective at fat burn than cardio!!!!!

Finally-- you're getting into the nitty gritty of how you manage to have 4 kids and look that good! Okay, one question, how do you get away from the kids to work out with your husband? Early mornings? Do the grandparents keep them? I would love some suggestions, I've got 3 liiittle kids and no extra hands.

Congrats on your serious take on getting healthy. Im currently a second year med student here in NY and what i was taught really was that a good cut off period is normally around 6:00/6:30 especially if your not doing it habitually everyday for a lengthy period (ie. months). If you just start out of the blue cutting off 3+ hours of your normal routine, it can screw up your metabolism and actually cause an opposite effect. Its best to wean yourself slowly by an hour each day instead of cutting so many hours. Thats what i was taught. Some of the physicians that i shadow actually don't really believe in a "cut off time" lol although i disagree.

This is in response to "Anonymous" I have 2 little ones & am single (no extra hands) and I exercise faithfully - have maintained a size 4 for years - I bring them with me! The gym has child care... My kids love it there 2!

Also, I agree with Amelia - strength training is excellent 4 weight and size reduction! I used 2 do cardio for 1 hour a day 5 days a week and was heavier than I am now doing just 30 min strength training and 30 min. cardio just 3 days/week! Holla!

Everywhere I go people stop and ask what my "secret" is - I always tell them! Add strength training 2 the mix. It feels good 2!

Thank u Tracee 4 all your gr8 blogs!!! Ur the bomb!!! Beautiful!!

Niecey Peters,
What do you mean by "if your not doing it habitually everyday for a lengthy period (ie. months)"? That you should only cut off at 6/6:30 once in a while and not habitually? Or that you can start of at this time and once it becomes habitual it can be earlier??

Tracee
Thanks again for inspiring me to get healthy. I really need to get back to the gym and eating well! September is the month!!
