Pros and Cons to having long hair....
Pros: Men love it !!
Con: Hair gets caught in purse straps, seat belts etc.
Pros : Lots of length to create different styles
Con : Negative attention from women of color
Pros : You can use hair to hide embarrassing blemishes etc.
Con: Whatever you put in your hair gets on your back (oily back)
Pros: Its fun playing in your hair
Cons: Flying bugs can get caught in your hair
Pros: You'll be the envy to some
Cons: Takes longer to style
Pros:
Cons: Spend more money on products
Pros:
Cons: Spouse accidentally laying on your hair or getting caught in it
Pros:
Cons: Hair getting caught in Jewelry
Pros:
Cons: Stylist charge you more

Cons: Hair is heavy when wet
OK so I came up with way more Cons than Pros....Whats up with that ?? Remind me why we are doing this again ...lol ..Fill in the blanks for the pros just for fun....

OMG Aaliyah R.I.P Anyway I think having long hair is great i'm starting my hair journey this summer so I can me more focused. This blog has great tips thank you so much!!

Another pro is that if you don't feel like styling it, you can put it in a cute bun and go.

This is a tough one. I can't think of any more Pros either. Lol. Here's one ... I think ...
Pros: Spend less money on wigs, sew-ins, and extensions

Great Post, I was just talking about this to a friend about how since my hair has gotten so long all the negatives that have accompanied the length.
I totally agree with the getting caught on everything. My hair gets wrapped around buttons, in zippers, everything! And not only on my own, others including strangers on the subway! My hair is long but not as long as yours but it is also natural and super duper curly and thick in addition to the length.
And let's not even start talking about under purse/bag/bookbag straps...painful! And yes it can get caught under my boo's arm too :(
Rollersetting...oh my...they take forever and my arms have basically gotten too short, I have about two more inches and rollersets are a wrap (no pun intended!).
I love my hair but yeah often times I just have to keep it pinned up or in a bun...for safety!

Yes...men love long hair. When I see black women with long hair, I always tell them how beautiful their hair is. Stylists do charge you more. My hair is thin so it is not heavy. I wish I had your thickness because it looks so much better in buns.

I agree with these pros/cons.
But, I must add another con for me:
long hair + light skin = thinking I'm better than all other black women, apparently/being called a high yellow heffer". : (

Pro: It's beautiful and can be very exotic.
Pro: Proof to ignorant people. Black women can grow long hair!
Pro: Very elegant, although short hair can be also.
Pro: If long healthy hair is something you want - obtaining it is realizing a goal and that's always gr8! :)
Pro: it's a source of warmth in the colder months
Pro: can be a sense of accomplishment (patience pay off)
pro: you get to see the fruits of your labor =]

@honeybrown1976: yes, I hated being only know as "the light skinned girl with long hair" growing up. Women are waaay nicer to me now that I cut my hair to my shoulders. Lol.

Looking 4wd to the pros & the cons. LOL on my way to APL 12/2012. Amusing list. Sad that women of color hate. Even when u rock wigs, people have smart things to say. LOL 1/2 the x people don't know if the wig is mine or what? OT, but a friend of mine wore an impeccable face of makeup to the store & said she actually heard the women of color sucking their teeth. That is so wack! We should have enough self confidence to compliment another female for whatever reason. Hey sis, you're working those boots. Love your earrings. Whateva! Although I did tell an older woman in CVS that she was hurting them w/ her heels. LOL She said, "You liike?" Whateva happend to being gracious? I guess that is why people don't pay as many compliments. I am looking forward to rocking buns. REal buns ladies, not the kind w/ the 2 combs you have to pin on. LOL

Pros: even though women of color hate. Hair care is actually bringing more and more black women together..we are building a stronger community
Pros: I personally believe that nothing looks more beautiful and exotic as a black woman with long hair....whether relaxed or natural...no other group can look like us

i.e playing with my daughter & she lays on my hair, lol
i.e flies in my hair ! i HATE flies ! errrrghh !
i.e use more products = more money...
Now with all these cons, you are definitely convincing me to stop growing my hair at a beautiful thick BSL ! No MBL or more for me, lol, i already have the cons beeing only full APL, looool

funny story: my hair is only APL right now, but once it got caught in the car window as I was trying to roll it up...my friend and I died laughing at the fact that it was even possible
I can understand what you are saying, but I'm sure in addition to negative attn you also get positive attention from other WOC also right? I know I have always made it a point to compliment women on their hair, makeup, clothes, whatever! So that can be a positive also! Interesting post though.
Amen, honeybrown1976! I kept my hair short for YEARS because of the reaction I got for being the light skinned heifer. Now I don't care.
Pros: You can take your hair out of a bun and have a beautiful style from the bun waves without using heat :)
As Traycee stated it was more about your hair then your skin tone. So many lighter complexioned women get caught up in the color game. A caramel, cocoa, cinnamon, etc. complexioned woman experiences the same hatred, it is not unique to your color ladies. We get black/brown heifer, black/brown B, stuck up Bourgie etc. TOO!
Yes, we as men love women with long hair. I believe it goes back to earlier aged notion of women with long silky hair being feminine and beautiful.
As we grow or become adults, I think we arrive at the reality that a woman with absolutely no hair at all, is just as beautiful.
