My New Cut and Color

My last length check

March 2010

See what had happened was...

(I finished my make up after this)

I've been sitting here trying to figure out a good reason to why I cut my hair... But I don't have one... Other than the fact that my V was growing and it was thinner towards the ends... This cut was extremely emotional for me to say the least...My hair has never been this long in my life... To me it was more of a need to change... So hence the cut and darker hair... Still aiming for TL just won't make it there as soon..

I started last night by cutting 1/4 of a inch through out my layers and dusting...

This morning I colored my hair using Silk Elements MegaSilk Hair Color System Coco Brown..

The Hubby actually cut my hair this morning after I colored and flatironed... He was so nervous asking are you sure... Baby are you sure..hahahaha... I used Feye's technique to make it easier for him ...

Next he cut straight across...

No cut just a little more.... Back at WL I think..

(um excused the ashy elbows..lol)

 Curled

I won't lie I have cried several times since I cut it.... But I do like it... It looks so much healthier and fuller... I'm hoping that when my texlaxed roots  shrink back up or when I do my next braid out or bantu knot  I don't totally regret it....

Fall Is Here !!!

Fall season is the perfect time to correct the damage from summer and prepare the hair for the winter months ahead... Here are a few tips to help you..

Things like UV rays, chlorine etc can cause damage to your hair during the summer...

Correct damage from summer

  1. Get a trim or if hair is really damaged from all the summer fun get a cut if instead and start over ...

  2. During the summer you lose protein from your hair because of the sun and chlorine or salt water...Replace the lost protein...Do a protein treatment or my favorite Chi Keratin Spray w/ your leave in ( or Ahoghee green tea spray) after a few washes

Start deep conditioning w/ a moisturizing conditioner 1x a week... Getting hair properly moisturized now will help your tresses stay healthy during to winter months ahead

Did you know that studies show that most shed more hair during the fall ?? I guess we are like the trees... So don't panic if you are experiencing shedding during this time..Its normal.... Prepooing with Coconut Oil will help slow hair fall during this season..

Updated Make Up Storage And Organization

Shampoo Day

Yesterday... I washed my hair with the shampoo mix I posted about a post or 2 ago... First I deep conditioned with a cheapie Suave Humecant mixed with Jamaican Black Castor Oil and Amino Acids... Next I jumped in the showered and rinsed... Washed my hair ... Then applied Aussie Moist to my hair while I showered.... My hair just sucked up the moisture...

I truly believe it when they say amino acids helps your hair absorb and retain moisture better... My hair feels amazing ... Just like silk.. After I air dried loose for awhile w/my normal leave ins... I took my damp hair and did 2 Bantu knots for bed... This morning when I took my hair down I couldn't believe how good my hair felt..

Too bad it was record breaking temps today (113 in Los Angeles) b/c the only smart thing to do was put all of my hair in a bun to help beat the heat... I would have loved to rock my soft waves.

Winterize Your Hair

With fall here winter is around the corner...

During the winter our hair is more prone to breakage and dryness....Using the right products and protecting the hair is key... Thicker leave ins and moisturizers work great in the winter... Keeping the hair conditioned will keep your hair healthy...

You should deep condition at least 1x a week with a moisturizing conditioner...

Wear scarves & hats to protect your hair. ...When purchasing hats look for silk and satin lined hats .. Avoid wool hats and coats because they can lead to breakage...Pretty scarfs placed over the shoulders will help protect the hair wool jackets as well...Also wearing the hair in protective styles will prevent breakage from your wool coats..

Shampoo Instead of Co Washing

Seems like latley my scalp has been smelly after training... A problem I never had before... So instead of co washing after work outs... This is what I will do following every work out...

Home Made Shampoo Mix

1/2 ounce of Amino Acids
1/2 ounce of Jamaican Black Castor
1 ounce of Dr. Bronner's Peppermint Pure Castile Soap
a couple drops of lemon oil
a couple drops of eucalyptus oil
a couple drops of grapefruit extract
the rest water

I jumped in the shower rinsed my hair and squeezed the applicator into my scalp and made sure I concentrated on cleaning my scalp.... Rinsed and then applied Aussie Moist Conditioner to the length of my hair ....

I'm also going back to keeping my scalp clean from any product... So that means I won't be oiling my scalp anymore...

I will let you guys know how that works for me... I swear working out makes my hair journey so much harder

Its A Lifestyle Change !!!

I see so many people set out to get in shape or to lose weight only to fail or gain it back... To me the problem is the mind...

Ask yourself why do you want change.. Is it to make a ex jealous ? Is it to make your home girl jealous, is it to look good in a bathing suit.... If these type things are your reasons your destined to fail...
A person that sets out to get in shape for health reasons or to live a better life usually sees success

If you go on a diet your destined to fail... Diets can start to feel like you missing out...They are boring and usually leave you feeling discouraged... You start to feel like your depriving yourself..

When others diet successfully only to come off the diet and gain it all back...

The key is making a lifestyle change.... Instead of dieting start eating healthier ... Eat in moderation... Eat till you are satisfied instead of full and make healthier decisions..

Start getting active.... Walk your dog more... Play with the kids at the park instead of watching them play... Stop looking for the closest spot to park your car and park further away... Take the stairs... Walk the kids to school..... Take a evening stroll with your Honey... Get up from your desk and walk around the office every hour..

I can go on and on with ways to get moving more... These are extra tips outside of your work outs.....

To my beginners start walking everyday for a hour.... Not walking slow but a fast pace for a hour and make better decisions on your eating and you will watch the pounds start to melt off... Just from small little changes...

Elasta QP Olive Oil & Mango Butter Moisturizer

Elasta QP Olive Oil & Mango Butter Moisturizer

Most of you know that have followed my journey that Elasta QP Mango Butter (Old Formula) was a must have in my hair journey in the beginning .. I used this help me retain length getting to WL .. I remember the first time I used it (first review)

To be honest the only reason I stopped using it was that I needed something lighter in the summer... Next thing I knew they changed the formula and the name became Elasta QP Olive Oil & Mango Butter Moisturizer..

Well I have to say ... I love this new Mango Butter even better... The old formula was really thick and waxy... I used to love using it to seal... But this new formula is light and creamy and way more moisturizing..

After being at the beach and out and about all day (it was windy today) it left my hair so dry... I applied the Elasta QP to my hair in small
sections and sealed with Argan Oil .. Next I put my hair in 2 bantu knots on each side of my hair and my hair feels great right now... I've missed you Elasta Qp Mango Butter ...

Why The Amino Acids in the Last Blog

The question why the Amino Acids shocked me... Its so important that when you start your hair journey that you research the structure of the hair to give you a better understanding of how to take care of it... Learning the basics will help you so much

Hair is made up of a chain of Amino Acids .... Hair is 91% protein !!!

All the damage we do to our hair like coloring, relaxing , heat styling, not to mention the sun and environment causes protein loss in our hair... This why we do protein treatments to help our hair ...

Amino acids increases the hair's ability to retain moisture and increases shine . Its is low in molecular weight so it easily penetrates the hair shaft and binds to hair's inner fibers.

I recommend amino acids to anyone that is protein sensitive and can not use most protein treatments.... Adding amino acids to your products is much gentler ...

You can add it to your deep conditioner , your leave in, shampoo, moisturizer, or spritz.

There a many different forms of amino acids you can purchase powder form, liquid form , wheat amino acids, silk amino acids, soy amino acids and more...

Just remember its protein and do not over do it... Protein overloads are usually always hard to correct...

We could go on and on about amino acids ...You can take them in supplements, or mix it in your relaxer or spray it on your hair before relaxing.....This post was just a tip of the ice burg... The rest you have to research on your own... Thats the fun part !!!

Back Ups

I'm officially out of my all of my Bee Mine.... Even the K.I.S.S. store is almost completely sold out... So while I wait for my personal products and the restock of the store... I had to go out and get back ups...

I went and got what I know works for me... Back to the basics and my favorites.... I did add amino acids to the list ... I got a back up moisturizer that used to be my favorite (before Luscious entered my life lol ) and I got the items to make my popular Aloe Vera Spritz...

I will work the Bee Mine back into rotation next week when I get my stuff...

Say A Little Prayer

So last night my Dad wanted me to pick him up and take him to the ER....Before I could even leave the house my 11 year old has a asthma attack... Yeah all in one night... So I ended up checking in both my Dad and my son in the ER...

My son was discharged early the next morning but they kept my Dad to treat him for pneumonia... We had been trying to get him to see a Dr. for over a month about his cough.. Why are men like that ? We are just happy that we finally got him there because pneumonia is no joke for anyone let alone some in their mid seventies.. He is in the hospital now talking about how he feels better and is ready to go home... LOl ... I just thank God we got our father to the hospital and in a few days he will back to his normal self and driving us crazy... My son will be feeling better in a few days as well

Needless to say ... I'm tired and I have my hands full over here...

Loving My Texlaxed Roots

I'm loving how thick my roots are since I have been texlaxing.... My roots stay so moisturized and I'm loving the texture...My roots are so thick it just puts the rest of my hair to shame & ya know I don't have thin hair.... I feel like chopping all my hair off and starting all over with texlaxed hair... I'm so happy I decided to make start this new journey

My Husband would probably pass out so I may just braid my hair up so I don't do anything crazy....

If you know any really good braiders in Los Angeles or OC area please let me know ...

Not Your Typical High Pony Tail

Yesterday the family and I hung out at Knotts Berry Farm .... We had a ball.... I did a high pony tail ... I moisturized with Bee Mine Luscious then created my pony tail.... Next I spritz my pony tail with CHI Heat Guard and ran the flat iron on low heat through my pony tail and curled...

I remember when I would need to add a fake pony to be able to wear a pony tail this high and still have length.... Not anymore...

What Is Keeping It Simple ???

I have had people email me and go "oh your doing tea rinses" or "oh your clarifying your not keeping it simple" ... Keeping it simple still means you have to change your regimen based upon your hair needs.... Below is my regimen which almost always stays the same ...

But if my hair is over moisturized then I throw in a protein treatment... If my hair starts to shed more than normal than I throw in a few tea rinses ... I co wash because after I run my normal 3 miles if I didn't rinse my scalp ... I would itch like crazy.... But overall my regimen has been the same for about 3 years ( not including products ofcourse)

Listening your hair and what it needs is key

Moisturize 1x daily
Clean Hair Weekly
Deep Condition 1x a week
Co wash as needed after my workouts
Air dry always

Relax/Texlax every 12-16 weeks

That's it.... I use protein/moisture as deep conditioners based on what my hair needs...

Lately I have been using Bee Mine Luscious Moisturizer only as my moisturizer and I haven't been sealing... My hair actually stays more moisturized doing this ..

Based upon a few of my blog followers suggestions I have started putting my shampoo in a applicator bottle and I love it
